What to put on Application Form?

I am an administrator at the moment but am looking for a new job, mainly because I am bored stiff at work!

I enjoy the work that I do but for the amount I have to do, I swear I could do it in about 1 day per week and so for the other 4 I am sitting here bored stiff, surfing the internet and twiddling my thumbs. I am sick of asking people for work to do and despite various Managers saying 'Well, I would like to get you doing this for me eventually, and you can look after this...' two years later it still hasn't materialised.

Like all jobs, they are making cut backs where I work and so I figure I need to find myself another job before a) I die of boredom and b) they finally realise I do nothing and get rid of me.

How do I put this on application forms when it asks for 'reasons for leaving'?

Thanks x
:p

    Looking for new challenges?
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

That sounds good - cheers

    Another question..

Where I have to put brief details of my current responsibilities, is it ok to bullet point these or do I need to write an paragraph or two?

I would much rather send my CV in, I hate filling in application forms:p

I would list no more than 6 responsibilities for your present job.

I would list no more than 6 responsibilities for your present job.

So would you just list say, 6 and then expand on it in the 'Supporting Information' section?

Also, at the back of the job description / person specification, the last paragraph reads:

'Applicants are strongly advised to address the above person specification, stating how they meet each of the criteria stated'

There are 4 sections, Education/Training, Experience, Skills/Aptitues/Comptences and Other. Would it be ok to use each as a seperate heading and then write underneath how you meet the criteria listed within that section?

I've only had 3 jobs in the last 25 years and haven't had to fill many forms in before - I HATE it!!

Well, I have lost count on the number of application forms I have filled in during 2008! Some are worse than others. Some employers expect you to have tiny writing to fill in some boxes Like writing like this! My handwriting is averaged sized.

I'm in exactly the same position as you. Just wanted to say good luck!

I'm in the process of filling an application form out at the moment and I used bullet points to list my responsibilities.

If they invite to apply by CV, that's fine. If they ask for an application form, there is NO substitute! Please, NEVER write on an application form "Please see attached CV."

However, if there isn't enough space on the form, I think it's fine to write "continued on separate sheet" as long as you don't go on to write an essay. Lay your information out in the same way as the form (so if they have "start date, finish date, employer's name, duties, reason for leaving" columns you need them too).

I too hate forms, which is why I intend to stay where I am for ever ...

  • Do check if they have an online application form, then at least you can cut and paste bits from your CV :)
