  • That's the thing isn't it ... if the banks allow these fraudulent transactions to go through they are in the wrong, and if they try to check that it's genuine they are in the wrong too! Unless you regularly send money abroad, it probably looks like quite a dodgy transaction. I would have just called them to warn them I was going to send some money abroad. Saves all that hassle.

Thanks for all your comments although I always thought these boards were for help not discriminatory comments.

I have had this credit card for 5 years and in that time have been to a lot of foreign countries spending money which exceeds the recent one and have NEVER had any problems so why on this occasion would I have phoned then to tell them? It is not in their t&c's and I had plenty of credit limit.
    I haven't got one!
  • cheekymole, I thought my comment WAS trying to be helpful! Things are changing so much recently with more and more credit card fraud and identity theft, the companies are bound to tighten up their procedures. I tried to suggest a way that you could stop this happening in the future!

The fact is, no matter what you have or haven't done in the past, they have obviously tightened up their procedures (probably as a result of increased fraudulent use) and they tried to telephone you to check the payment was a valid one. Unfortunately you did not see the call. Now you know that they are tightening up on security, you can take steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. Personally speaking, any procedures to tighten up security on my accounts is very welcome indeed!

People post on here for different perspectives and suggestions of how to deal with certain situations. It appears that in this case, most people do not think that the bank was at fault. We are not "discriminating" against you - we just don't agree with your viewpoint. It happens in life.
