MBNA credit card charge

I recently changed from Halifax Bank to Alliance and Leicester using there direct debit switching process. i checked the list rec'd from A&L and all my direct debits were on there list for switching. However i noticed that MBNA payment had not been taken from my account and phoned them and was informed that i had incurred a £12 late payment fee a £12 returned payment fee and £119.57 interest charge as i had gone into default of the 0% scheme. i made a payment over the phone and set up the direct debit over the phone and was refunded the £12 late payment fee, the £12 returned payment fee. but they have only agreed to refund £50 of the interest charge.
i have even got a letter from A&L which confirms they were informed by bacs on the 10th September and i sent this to MBNA. however they have responded by saying that after reviewing our records, they are unable to locate any request from your bank to chagne the direct debit details, there, I am unable to refund any further charges applied to your account as these are vailid.
A&L are now doing a bac's trace which will take about two weeks for me to then send to MBNA in the hope they will refund the £70 i am now out of pocket.
however any further advice would be appreciated.

And never, ever, ever, use a switching service for important DD's such as credit card, loan, and mortgage payments. In the case of A&L, tick the "do not switch" box and move them yourself as I did recently. If you need to switch 'something' for any £100 incentives and the like, then set up a couple of dummy £10 standing orders to savings accounts which you can then cancel once the switch is complete (and you've got your incentive, if any).0
