Thanks to all that replied, it's all sorted now.
I am still unsure where the £3000 extra to fly with Virgin came from, but it sounds like some sort of !!!! up at Hayes and Jarvis.
I've been in to First Choice this lunchtime and they weren't happy about this either, we are now flying on the original date with Virgin (and it's a couple hundred quid cheaper), we did mention that we would probably cancel if it wasn't sorted out
