Solar Powered Garden Lights (that work in winter)

Options
We have stick in the ground solar garden lights at the front of the house marking where the front steps are, that do not work well enough with this dull weather. They are fantastic in summer, useless from October onwards. Can anyone recomend the best type to buy that actually work in winter? Me and the kids are gonna break our necks if we do not find a solution. (Hubby has been promising to fix the wiring on the security light for 2 years now!)

(In the past I have only bought the cheapest available)
