LIDL's Targa DVD player firmware update

Hi
I'm struggling to update the firmware on my Targa DVD player, the one LIDLs had on sale at £19.99
As suggested in another thread I have burned the files as an "image" rather than simply copying them across to the disc. I end up with a single file on the disk called Firmware. When I insert the disk in the player I get a disk error. I'm using a CDRW disk rather than a CDR. Is the "firmware" file I end up with the correct format and could it just be it doesn't like the CDRW disc I'm using? I am happy to use a CDR instead if the above is correct but as I only have a couple left I want to make sure I'm burning it correctly rather than waste them. I'm using Nero 5.5
Any help appreciated.

I just downloaded the firmware from here and followed the instructions. Worked first time for me.
Edit: the instructions, basically, being to extract the file you download. This gives three files- one .iso file of about 3mb and two tiny instruction .txt files in English and German. Using the 'burn image' function of Nero, click on the .iso file and burn.
I used a CDR though as I don't trust CDRWs for critical data- I didn't want to get a 'bad flash'. If you're doing it exactly as Targa instruct you to and it still doesn't work, try a CDR, or if you don't have one at least do a full erase on the CDRW before you burn the firmware image onto it. I did use a CDRW for the 'region free' program (see this thread) and it worked perfectly.0 -
Thanks, that got it working. I had been making a new image file of the three files rather than using the main one in the download! All working now!0

Cool. Image files used to confuse me too, I once downloaded an ISO of a live CD Linux distro (think it was Knoppix), then burnt it onto a CDR. I then had a CD-ROM containing one .iso file- predictably it wasn't bootable:o. Not my finest hour- it was a few months before I figured out where I'd gone wrong:rolleyes:.0

Anyone know if it's possible to recover from an interrupted firmware upgrade on this player? Someone in the house loaded the firmware disk in the player to see what it was, then switched it off before it completed! Now hen I switch it on I just get the Hello message on the display. Eject etc no longer works.
Wondering is there any button combo to get to a service menu for example.0
