Kaupthing Edge - How to Close?

Transferred the majority of my savings out a couple of weeks ago, so just have a few quid left in there. Just wondering how you get the account closed and remaining balance transfered out. I have just logged on, but could only find the normal transfer button, which wouldn't take into account any due interest. I only assume you have to telephone them to close?

Yes, there is no option on their website to close, so we will have to phone them to do this. I am in the same position as yourself.
I had to phone KE/ING to close my fixed rate account. When I got through and asked to close it I was told I could do it on the website. I told her she was wrong, and she had to go off and check with someone before confirming what I had told her...
Although considering how long the last call was for and so the cost involved, I would like to know if it is possible to do this by letter, as I have found this is often the only way to communicate with some customer service departments who use useless call centre staff, when wanting to close accounts (Barclaycard...)0 -
Personally, I'd leave it open until I had got a tax certificate (which won't be until April/May 09).0

Having eventually got the significant amount from my KE account a few weeks back, I too wanted to close the account, which now just has a few quid left in it. Yesterday around 9am, I checked the terms and conditions:
"7.9.3 Account Closure on Your Part
b) If you want to cancel the Account after 15 days of opening the Account (except for a Fixed Term Deposit Account), please contact Customer Services. Subject to any applicable Special Terms and Conditions specifying something different, we will close the Account upon receipt of your request, give you all your money back with any interest earned...etc"
As it didn't say you had to phone them, merely "contact" them, I withdrew the remaining balance and sent a secure message to them saying what I'd done and asking them to close the account....
Just checked this morning, and the money's still sitting there......it's deja vu all over again!0 -
I hadn't mentioned in my earlier post that I sent them a secure message a couple of days ago asking to close my account. I have just checked and they have replied saying that they have closed the account!
I didn't expect a reply TBH, and certainly a 'you need to phone us to do that' if at all, so it would seem they will close it by secure message.0 -
I called and requested my account be closed about 2 weeks ago.
Still haven't heard anything and money is still sitting there.
Anyone know how long it takes?0 -
Just checked again: the withdrawal has now been made, and KE have responded to my secure message to confirm the account will be closed. So, not instantaneous, but reasonably prompt, given the recent turbulence.vincit_veritas wrote: »Having eventually got the significant amount from my KE account a few weeks back, I too wanted to close the account, which now just has a few quid left in it. I don't understand the desire to close the account.
I've emptied mine apart from some interest which I will withdraw when I get round it it but I am simply going to leave the account alone.
No-one can take anything from it if there is nothing in it, if someone want to put some in, crack on!
I see lots of posts where people seem desparate to close savings accounts but I simply can't see what the rush or desire is.0 -
For me there's no rush really, but after opening four new accounts this last 2/3 weeks, it just seems right to 'tidy up'. It'll need closing eventually, so no time like the present.
And I never wanted to be with ING after all...0 -
I took all but £1 out and am keeping it open for now.
Would like to tidy mine up too, but it takes so long to open new accounts that it's probably wise to keep a few floating around empty for now in case money needs to be transferred in from elsewhere.0
