Dripping Shower Head

Hi,

In our ensuite we have a bath with overhead shower (just head visible)the shower head has started to drip constantly, so OH, opened up and cleaned out, but to no avail.

We noticed last night, that it actually drips after the bath has been run, not only that, tonight we have run a bath in the main bathroom and the shower head in the ensuite started to drip again, however the rooms are not next to each other - any ideas?

Thanks

It is likely the seals have worn in the shower

Thanks for your reply - If it is the seal, why does it drip when the 2 baths are run?
  • it is not uncommon for shower heads to drip because rubber seals within the showers start to wear out, it usally more common with pressurised systems eg megaflows etc and can happen with combi boilers as well

do you know what type of shower it is???? eg mira, triton aqualisa etc

    Hi,

One the temperature control ii says PISA and BRISTAN - does that mean anything to you?
  • ok have looked up model, is it ressed into the wall or is the control surfaced mounted?? if it is surface mounted then it may quite straight foward to change the seals internally yourselfes;

if the shower is ressed into wall i would probaly not recommend a diy attempt unless you feel you are compitent as the ressed models are quite tricky to take apart without possibly damaging tiles etc

i cant say i fitted many of these types of showers, so i would not like to say it would be easy to change internal seals (in-case its not...)

the best thing i would recommend is to follow plumb1's link and try to get some spares and instructions if you wish to have a go yourself, or you could try and contact bristan direct (type bristan showers into google and you should be able to find relevent contact details from there!) and get them to give you some advice or even blag some free spares of them if you can!!!

    hopes this helps...
  • I've actually had this problem with brand new shower valves in the past on pressurised and combi systems where the pressure is high. It seems to be related to opening a tap elsewhere that affects the differential pressures between the hot and cold on the shower that allows the valve to push open slightly on one side, I actually noticed it on my own shower the other day, but you know what plumbers' houses are like, I'll probably look into it in 2007, when the wife starts really bending my ear about it!!

I did cure it on the last job I was on where it happened and I think it was my old faithful cure for most pressurised problems of a mini-expansion vessel installed on the main after a double check valve. If the pressure is ecxcessive then an adjustable pressure reducing valve may help also.

Numberous calls to plumbers, Mira and plumbing retailers and I'm frustrated!!!

My new house was fitted with 3 Mira Excel showers (903.33 modules inside) and an unvented mains pressure system. After a seemingly random time (weeks to months) they became difficult to turn on. When forced on, the black plugs behind the little red/blue tabs inside break off leaving me with no choice but to buy a new module for >£100. Mira say the module is not user-serviceable. They suggested fitting a mini expansion vessel of 0.16 litres. (Page 12 of http://www.mirashowers.com/onlinecatalog/pdf/p3840_4.pdf). I couldn't find a plumber who knew anything about mini expansion vessels so I fitted one myself. Things were fine for a few years, then another break. I attempted to re-pressurise the expansion vessel but couldn't get it to hold pressure. I replaced it. Things were fine for a few years, now the same has happened again... a broken shower, a £100 bill and I cannot pressurise the vessel.
    1. What should I use to "pump it up"
    2. Do they have a limited (couple of years) life
    HELP!

I have a similar problem with my shower that runs from the combi boiler, after I have used it about 2 or 3 minutes later it starts dribbling from the shower head. It only does it for a minute or so and then stops. This has always happened from the time I had it fitted.
