disruption to mains gas supply

Hi guys, first post here... yesterday I noticed a gas leak coming from just outside the house, reported it to the National Grid and then the engineer found out that the leak was coming from the meter reading. He then said that because it is a semi-concealed meter reading they can't do anything about it other than cutting the supply and that I had to contact my supplier to get a replacement meter reading. So I did.... didn't get much help from them and today I haven't had much help either, they're just fobbing me off from one place to another and we're expecting now another freezing night without any heating. The most distressing bit is that we have a 15 month-old baby who needs being warm and properly washed. Any help would be forever appreciated. Thank you very much.
Do you mean the meter itself was leaking and so a new one is required.
Should be quite easy to arrange if you contact your supplier and explain.
In the meantime, if you need heat & hot water pop down to your local supermarket; kettles are available for a little over a fiver and electrical heaters for about £10-£20 (but to be honest, a nice warm blanket should see the baby fine, but make sure it's not too warm
) "Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
If your meter is a semi concealed meter and your gas supplier has a PEMS contract with national Grid then National Grid should replace this meter. You should ring national grid back and ask them who your meter belongs to as it appears to me that it may well be NGs job to replace it.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

it is my understanding that most semi concealed mtrs have to be dealt with via the gas suppliers metering company for repairs/replacement following an emergency call out.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
