I questioned this ludicrous announcement used at Selsdon and Warlingham branches and on each occasion the lady in customer care replied that "it sounds nicer".
This sounds like USAian style brainwashing to me. Both ladies seemed very uncomfortable when I questioned the use of "Colleague Announcment".

This is about Sainsbury's training is it not?? The checkout lady I spoke to yesterday told me that she received no training at all!!
That said, I do find Sainsbury's infinitely more civilised than Tesco, although no match for Waitrose.0 -

maybe the store has issues with training but i can confirm staff are given training to go onto the till albeit just shadowing the more experienced members of staff0 -

why would the sales go through the roof ?, i dont mind whether they say staff or colleauge, i know in my store both words are used,0
