Broadband 8MB?

For the past couple of days I noticed that, when I go online, the little XP speech balloon tells me the speed is 8.1 Mbsp. It used to be 1.1 Mb before that.

Is it really an eightfold increase in speed? Does not seem any faster to me, although I know this also depends on the modem (56k).

Can anyone shed light on this? I'm with Wanadoo and am very happy with them.

If you are on BB a 56k modem doesnt come into it..

Check yer speed here... http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp and then post the results like the image below.



P.S no need to post an image just the results.

your throttled at isp end more then likely its just your your sync and dslam been upgraded

Hmm, I think Wanadoo are pulling the wool over my eyes. Why does their connection bubble say 8.1 MBps then?

Oh well, 2Mb is still better than 1.1MB, I suppose...

These are my speeds from a 1MB connection....supposedly being upgraded to 4MB before christmas. I am a Telewest Broadband customer and speeds have been appalling this week. (2 of my family in the same area think the same thing)
Does having a Belkin wireless connection slow things down? We occassionally runa laptop in the bedroom, which runs slower than a dial up most of the time.

Any help gratefully accepted!

Been regularly 946/245 with Newnet since I joined. Dosn't fluctuate like Metronet did. Am just about to go to 2meg (if I can) as its the same price.

even if you had 8mb, you still wont feel alot of differents with genral website surfing... alot of servers dont even upload at 8mb/s per IP. My 2mb hardly goes to its max download speed... usualy less than half that... feels the same as 1mb usualy.

wanadoo are not pullin wool over anyone eyes, your synced at the dslam at 8mb on your line card,part of wanadoo mass upgrade cheaper in long run if you want to change speed,
