Matty - once you have kicked the habit you will feel GREAT!! I kid you not, the feeling of being in charge is better than any cig you've ever smoked.;)
I was a heavy smoker for YEARS and it honestly was the best thing I ever did. I did it via the Smoking Cessation advisor at our GP surgery, they take your carbon monoxide level, give you loads of stuff to read and provide you with prescriptions for your NRT stuff if needed. MUCH cheaper than buying it from chemists. After a week of not smoking your carbon monoxide level is down to zero and it's such a buzz knowing that.
I was shocked recently, I was shopping with a friend and she bought some cigs and they were about £6 for 20!! What a total waste of money!
Could you try NOT smoking in your lovely new car while you decide which way to tackle things? I had a brand new one just after I quit and it was great knowing it had NEVER had smoke in it.
I came across the Allan Carr book several weeks into my quit and read of snippets of it. I also used this site loads in the early days
www.click2quit.com
there are some great people on there who have stayed smoke-free for years and there is always someone with the answer to your probs.
You won't regret it Matty, you'll be RICH
, you won't smell and you will be far more relaxed not worrying when you can have your next smoke! Best of luck! 0 -
Please could someone tell me what the side effects are from taking Champix?
This is MY experience
First two days - no side effects. Day three - couldnt drive because I felt "spaced out" day four the same. Day 4 to about day 10 nausea in the mornings rather like morning sickness but never actually sick.
Oh and a metal mouth for a few days - needed sweets and water to hand
I gave up smoking on day 8
I went back down to one tablet after about 4 weeks and was off them before my third and final prescription was "cashed in"
I know a lot of people have had trouble with the sickness and some have used it as the excuse to start smoking again but I promise you is isnt that bad and it wears off soon enough0 -
Just came across this,
"The most common side effects seen in Champix are nausea, dream pattern changes, constipation, gas and vomitting. If any other side effects are experienced then contact your doctor to check."
I already experience most of the above so I don't suppose I'd notice much difference. :rotfl:0 -
Many thanks Sukie & steady_eddie for the info. I think I'll probably give Champix a miss - don't need anything else messing around in my head!0

Really vivid dreams is the most common side affect, mine were far more exciting than my everyday lifePlease could someone tell me what the side effects are from taking Champix?
I don't know if a link to another forum is allowed, but if you Google champix, you will see a site where members from all over the world are discussing their experiences of the drug.
On the site it's under "general discussions" and currently stands at 147 pages.
If you cant find it please feel free to PM me.0 -

Honest the side effects are for a few days only, not everyone has ALL the side effects, most people I know got the nausea, some felt a bit light headed for a day or two and some say they had bad dreams - but I dont know anyone whos had ALL the symptoms
I personally didnt feel safe to drive for a few days but then I am a new driver and I wont drive if I have a headache even
Unless you have clinical depression thats being medicated its worth speaking to your doctor about champix0 -

I stopped cold turkey nearly 10 months ago. I bought the Allen Carr book about four years ago and actually read it when I had stopped smoking for a few months. It certainly didn't do anything for me, I thought it was totally boring.
I think the bottom line is that if you really want to stop smoking you will find the inner strength to do it and won't need any drugs, patches, gum, etc etc. If you need that stuff then you probably won't succeed.
I still miss it terribly and always say after a meal that I could really do with a smoke, but won't have one because there were things I didn't like about it, namely:
That I stank and people used to delight in telling me
Due to smoking roll ups my fingers got stained and I was always having to scrub them with a pumice stone, which made them rather sore
The back of my teeth were always brown and my dentist used to really give me a hard time about it
That we all know deep down it is bad for us
I resent being controlled by a little white stick
Finally of course you are really made to feel like a criminal nowadays and can't even enjoy a ciggie at a pub or after a meal. Going outside alone is just not fun.
Good luck anyway, you can do it you really want to. Nicotine is out of your system in just a few days, it is breaking the ritual that is difficult!
P.S. I would add that money was not the issue for me giving up, as I bought Golden Virginia brought back from the EU very cheap. I just had to prove to myself that I could do it.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0
