Hi there,
I had some great advice on here last week and bought a recommeneded adaptor so I could access files on the hard drive of my PC that isn't working. The adaptor is fine, I can view all the files from the hard drive using the adaptor plugged into my laptop. However the files I need are all Word documents that won't open. It says 'user does not have access priveledges'.
Can anyone help? I'm at my wit's end with this, I desperately need college work and my daughter's homework from it-it's soooo frustrating that I can now see the files but can't open them.
I've tried right clicking the file name and going to properties, then security, but it says I do not have permission....what can I do?
I'm worried if I take pc to PC World to look at that they'll wipe the hard drive.
Please help!!!!

No - don't take it to PC Whirled!
There's a comprehensive article here which should help:

I've had this problem before what I did was - Boot the computer with a linux live cd plug in the adapter and a good size usb stick, copy from the drive to the usb. This works 99% of the time.
