I want to buy a printer as a gift for someone who has just got a very expensive SLR camera. They are starting to get into photography in a big way so want a fairly decent one for between £100 and £150. Its a canon camera(dont know if this is relevant)
If anyone can help or tell me what I should be looking for when buying one id be most grateful.

I know this won't really help you since you will have to think of another gift.
But I'm not convinced that home printing is really the way to go, tried its myself some time back , but what with the expense of the inks (yes compatibles not originals) and gloss paper etc
It was just easier & better & cheaper to use a online photo printing service - there are ususally numerous offers around
Be interested to see what others think0 -
I'd agree with Bob.
The general consensus if you follow any of the photography forums seems to be that no domestic inkjet, laser or dye sub printer will get you print quality that is as good as a "professional" lab which uses proper photo paper and professional-grade equipment, and the lab will also almost certainly cost less.
But a good printer is still handy to print out a copy locally for convenience. For photo prints, the ones with six or seven ink carts give the best-looking results. I personally like the Canon MP and MX range.
The MP970 has a 7-ink system, but is a bit outside your price range - though you do get a scanner/copier function, a film/slide adapter and a network interface too...0 -
Home printing is fine for odd one but I do think printing lots would be cheaper to go to Jessops or other store or online
I like Epsons printers myself cheap to run0 -
Dito, home printing is just not worth the trouble.
Would they like, lens, tripod, camera bag, flash gun, or filters instead.
If they have no printer at all I would just go for a standard 4 ink one for about £500 -
Oh well thats that then back to the drawing board!! I would of bought lens etc but have ya seen the cost of them!!!Jesus.
Rather get him something he can use thats related to photography but he seems to have the whole kit and kaboodle
Thanks for your replies.xx0
