XP user account problems

Hi, on my XP computer i have 4 user profiles (me, brother, mum and dad). The problem recently is that when i log out of one, and try to log into another........
it starts the log in phase(screen goes blue for a few seconds and the mouse pointer turns into a egg timer thing) but then it immedaitely goes back to the screen which shows the 4 user accounts
The only way i can get round this is by turning the computer off and on again ( which causes whoever had logged in to potentially lose information.
.........and it takes ages to turn off!

Have an XP Disc? pop it in and then stop the disc if it loads i.e close it down
then log into an administration account and then try.
Start Run type, sfc /scannow.. link here. http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
Give it a whirl.0 -

thanks for your help, i'll try that later
i was just wondering though, is this couldn't of happend for no reason, so do you think i have a virus or something ( i've run all the virus, registry spybot, checks etc). Which would you reccomend?0 -
I would try adaware with system restore off, then do a checkdisk and then a defrag
and then a virus check in safe mode.0
