Two broadband connections in one telephone socket?

Hi, i was wondering how i would get internet in my room.

1. I have a telephone socket in my room and a new computer which has not got connection to the internet.

2.The telephone socket in my room is being used for the broadband in a different room (uses a router so that the two computers in the other room have internet access)

3. I have an ethernet cable which can reach from my new computer to the telephone socket, but cannot reach from my new computer to the next door router.

Please, any help would be great!

You can't run two Broadband Connections from one telephone line, unless of course the router is disconnected when you plug in your computer. However, this would require you to keep swapping plugs.

If the Ethernet cable doesn't reach, you have one of two options. You could either:
Of course, the first option is cheaper, but is harder than the second option. Another option (similar to option 2 above) would be to move the router into your room and then purchase double the USB Adapters or PCI Cards for the two computers in the other room - double the price. (You wouldn't need a second Access Point though)

I have recommended all Netgear kit above because the cheap eBuyer equipment is usually harder to setup, and doesn't always come with required drivers etc.

I hope this helps. tigermatt :)

Is it a seperate broadband service or are you trying to share a connection in the same house?

If you have a router (wired) you just need a spare port and a suitable cable, however wireless is easier, no cables...can you clarify exactly what you are trying to acheive?

Putting a Cat5e socket on the end of a network cable is very easy. B&Q do keystone jacks for about 50p and a socket for £1, and you dont need to strip wires, its all colour coded and takes about 2 minutes at each end. Then just plug in some ready made patch cables.
