Basic Banking

I was wondering if anyone knows of a basic banking account that lets customers have a debit card?
I currently have a basic banking account but it just gives me a cash card that I can only use at their machines and their machines only (or the post office) both options are not convienient.
I live in northern ireland so I am hoping there is such a thing here.

You're asking in the wrong place - this is the Health and Beauty board
What you want is the Budgeting and Current Accounts board, where they should be able to help you

Or you might even try the Northern Ireland board as well??0

I have an Alliance & Leicester current account and that has a debit card. Interest is paltry so it's not wise to keep much in it, mine is just used as a convenience - pension paid in weekly, most of it moved immediately to a savings account with interest, just a bit left behind for odds and ends.0

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Northern Ireland board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
I guess it may be moved from there too but we'll see what local experience recommends!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You could try the Northern Bank's Personal Access account. It's their basic account, but you get a Maestro Debit card, so you can withdraw money from cash machines and also use it in shops and for internet purchases etc.
Here's the link for it- http://www.northernbank.co.uk/en-gb/Personal/Day-to-day/CurrentAccounts/products/Northern-Personal-Access/Pages/Northern-Personal-Access.aspx0 -
I have a Halifax Easycash, there is no interest paid although I have a Visa Electron card with it, which is a debit card.Live on a little over £4k challenge

I have the halifax easycash too - the only problem i had with it was the fact that i went to lodge money in at the branch in belfast and was treated like a piece of dirt stuck to the assistants shoe, apparently it doesn't come with a counter service, and the time she took telling me this would have lodged my money for me!0

barclays basic accounts give you a full visa debit card but no overdraft. As they have gotten rid of Woolwich they have a few branches over NI:santa2:0
