Misrepresentation of subscription fees

Hi All
Not sure if this is the correct forum, so my apologies in advance. Could anyone advise as to whether I have a leg to stand on (so to speak) re the following:
Earlier this year I joined a local health club. The options offered were joint or indivual corporate or non-corporate membership. I was concerned about committing for 12 months but was told categorically (with a witness) that a 12 month contract was the only option.
I have since been informed by the Club that at the time I joined, I could have opted to pay on a month-by-month basis, with a slightly higher monthly subscription.
I haven't visited the Club since at least June this year and I would like to terminate my contract (which only has 2.5 months to run) on the basis that the terms & conditions were misrepresented by the salesperson. The club have been completely unwilling to negotiate (other than presenting me with an option which would actually work out more expensive than paying the remaining subscriptoin) I have 3 other people who were also given the same options as me and are willing to state this as fact.
It's more the principal than the money, but I feel the salespeople were only concerned about meeting sales targets so were less than honest when selling the subscription.
Advice anyone? Thanks for reading
