Need ASDL wire to stretch from phone line to bedroom!!!!

Have set up PC in bedroom upstairs. Phone line is downstairs in the living room. At the moment i am using phone extension line trailing down the stairs to log on to Internet but cannot use the phone at same time and dog is licking his lips waiting to pounce on the wires!!!

have got filters to allow me to use pc and phone at the same time but can only find wiring up to 10m. Does anyone know where I can get long length of cable? Am I right that it is ASDL cable that i need?

Thanks

PF xx

  • You need an RJ11 extension lead/kit, they're readily available. :xmassign:

I am assuming the phone you can't use is downstairs - if so you just need a filter on each item - one for the phone where it is plugged in downstairs (if there are several phones then several filters - one for each) and a filter at the top of the phone extension cable upstairs.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that a phone extension cable is fine, and provided you put the filters in the proper places and you can use the phone at the same time.

Also, phone cables are thinner so if you were to put in a permanent wire it would look more attractive if you used that.

Why don't you just get a wireless router and modem nowadays you can pick up a modem and computer adaptor for around £60.00. It means you can use the intermet anywherein your home and your not restricted to where the phone line is.

Totally agree with this. In fact, if you already have a router downstairs then all you really need is a cheap Wireless Access Point (about £20) and PCI card in the PC upstairs (another £10). Much better than running cables around everywhere.

I've got a feeling I saw these in the Argos catalogue a while back. Not sure if they still sell them though. tigermatt :)
