Credit Card List

in Credit cards
Just a tip others may find useful, I keep a sreadsheet with a list of all the previous credit cards I have had and what date/year I send them back and close the account.
This list is very useful when I'm looking for new 0% deals, I can check whether I've been with that card before and if it was long enough ago to qualify for newbie promotions.
Also, I look to see what offers the oldest ones have and hope I stand a better chance when applying because I've previously had credit with them and have a good record.
It worked when I applied for my latest 0% deal - only a 6 month deal but in my situation I'm grateful for anything.

I keep a similar spreadsheet, and yes it makes life a lot easier than scribbling on the back of envelopes!
Do you ring each credit card co. to find out how long an account has to be closed for before you can apply for 'new customer' offers?
For example I am led to believe that one can apply for a new Capital One account almost immediately after closing an existing account yet for other lenders you have to wait 6 months or more. (I have just closed my Cap One account in the hope that I will have the prospect of applying for a new juicy offer in the new year.)
It would be very useful to form a list/table of what the suggested time period is between closing an account and re-applying for new offers is. Maybe there is one out there already?0 -
Good idea about ringing companies and checking.
I have a Capital One on 0% until August 06 and I too will be looking for a good deal to follow that one. They often have the best offers so it would be interesting to know what their definition of a 'newbie' is.0
