Hello, I hope somebody can enlighten me... I'm planning to purchase a new ipod, not interested in shuffle or nano. I am thinking about purchasing Ipod touch 16gb. Q: what is the difference between the old and the new Ipod touch apart from the price obviously?
any ideas? TIA

I think they are slightly slimmer, lighter and better battery life0

I am interested in this too. My daughter wants one for Xmas but she said that she wants the one that you can play games on as well. She has seen on the tv that you can play yahtzee on it and to roll the dice, you shake the ipod! What is the difference in gen 1 and gen 2?0

The new version also has a speaker.0

Apart from what savemoney said, the 2nd Gen also have speakers.
The older iPod would probably require a firmware update (should be free via iTunes). Some said you'd have to pay for it. Probably best to lurk around the net to check it out.
Edit: Yet again, my idiotic connection fails me. (-_-) Information given redundant as someone posted before me (and browser didn't show it). Apologies0 -
A lot of the accessories for the old iPod touch don't work with the new version, apart from that very good I am typing this on my new touch.0

you can play games on the 1st gen iPod touch but i think you need to upgrade to iPod 2.1 firmware. i think this costs £5.99 from the iTunes store
the 2nd gen iPod touch comes with iPod 2.1 firmware pre-installed. all subsequent firmware update should be free for both versionsMega Doctor Who, Gadget and MSE Fan!
