Second accident - 17yr old , how will it affect insurance

Options
My 17yr old daughter had a accident at a roundabout last night . Thankfully she is ok , but I think the car is a write off. She checked right and it was clear pulled on to the r/bout and was hit by an oncoming car at some speed in the drivers door. The roundabout has two lanes and she was hit in the centre lane. I know the insurance companies will probably go 50/50 , no help to us as she is insured tpft. She had a no fault accident 4 weeks ago on another r/bout where she was stationary and a van ran in to the back of her.
Will this push up the insurance at renewal considerably ?

If a car hit her from the right in her drivers side, then its 100% her fault
she pulled out on another car, thats a fact by the impact marks.

It will more than likely put her premiums up.

However the no fault accident will have no effect on her renewal as she will not be making a claim from her own insurer. (Even if she was fully comp and did, provided they made full recovery it would not be counted either).
  • Intel - not necessarily - she was 2/3 of way across r/bout when hit , and other driver didi not slow down or give way to traffic already on the roundabout. Normally I would agree with you but lloking at the impact and speed other driver must have been going at , I would think 50/50

Its unfortunate but this still means she pulled out on another car, give way to the right. Its the law, and if she was 2/3 over a round about that can be seen as hesitation.

And the speed wont come into it as thats hearsay, speed is only taken
into account by SOCO if the accident has been fatal or Nr fatal.

Edit: Just glad all involved are Ok, and if you think of the worst
and it turns out to be 50/50 well thats a bonus.

I'm not sure you're correct here because many (all?) insurers now ask the question "have you had an accident, regardless of fault, in the last 3/5 years?"

If it doesn't affect the premium, ie by incurring an additional loading, why do they ask about 'not-at-fault' accidents?

I don't know why they ask (other than to see how honest you are) but having had two no fault accidents in the last three years, it makes no difference to the premium. I have obtained online quotes without the accidents declared and with them declared to test the water and they always came up the same.

Also, my OH's accident spanned an insurance renewal before being settled and the premium went up until I proved that the excess had been settled so liability was not in dispute and they then dropped the premium back down. They would have refunded the difference later but accepted the proof of excess refund as sufficient to ensure they would receive repayment of their payout on the repairs.
  • i had an accident last lear but as it wasn't an insurance claim (third party dealt with it) i didn't see that it was relevant although the RAC claimed the pickup charges back off my insurance company so it was down as a claim. The other party admitted liability and my insurance company got the money back (Admiral)
when i went to renew i just said no accidents (as it didn't claim through insurance) and Elephant was the cheapest so i took it. With them being part of Admiral they had access to my records and wrote to me saying i had a claim and everything will be updated but there'll be no additional charge.

I can't comment on what the accidents will do to her insurance record, but has she considered doing PassPlus? Some insurers will give a discount for that, it may help increase her confidence (surely at a low ebb after two accidents, regardless of fault!) and should improve her driving anyway. Alternatively consider doing an advanced driving course (Guild of Experienced Motorists, Institute of Advanced Motorists, there may be others!) for the same reasons.

Glad she has not been hurt.
