How did the engineer visit go? hope they sorted it out.
I couldn't believe that the filter didn't catch smaller coins either but they showed them to me as they came out.
  • The engineer came today and decided to replace the pump. When he took it apart, he found a 50p piece which was exactly the right size to block the inlet to the pump, apparently. When it turned on its side, it let water through, but when it turned the wrong way it completely blocked the pipe, which was why it kept happening then releasing itself. There was no way to get at the area where the 50p was without dismantling the pump.

The engineer was his usual arrogant self, he was supposed to arrive between 12 and 4. I rang his office at 4.15 and they rang him and said he would be with me in 15mins. He eventually arrived at 5.30pm so I ended up missing my 6pm physio appointment. He told me it was my own fault and he would be charging me, even before he knew what was causing it. I accept the coin was my fault, however, I pointed out that (a) if he had found the problem the first time and charged me, that would have been reasonable, but not after I had to suffer numerous breakdowns and time off work and being without a washing machine, and (b) I would expect an expensive machine to trap things such as coins without requiring dismantling the pump, which although my fault are probably a fairly regular occurence for washing machines in general to deal with, and (c) as he had arrived late with no phone call or apology, I had missed my physio appt and would still have to pay for that. He insisted and I refused to pay and said I would take it up with his Head Office, and I would also mention his arrogant, unhelpful attitude at the same time. He then threw the form at me and left, muttering swearwords.

So I now have a working washing machine, and shall be ultra, ultra careful not to leave anything in the pockets, as it does seem more sensitive about such things than other machines - and fingers crossed I won't have to call the engineer out again!
