Coventry BS Login

I have a query re logging into Coventry BS.

On the security details form, which I filled in an returned last week, I had to choose a password and then three memorable words. The letter from them stated that there would be no further correspondence re these details and to wait 4/5 days before trying to login for the first time.

Thought I'd have a go at logging in but the first stage asks for....

Never enter your full password when you login. We will only ever ask you for random characters from your password.

Please enter the following details
Web ID
* *

Date of birth
1990 * * * huh, if only

What is the Web ID supposed to be?
I only have my password and three memorable words. It can't be password as stated above.

The web ID is about an 8 or 9 digit logon ID that you should receive in a letter from them I seem to remember.

If you haven't received it I suggest you give them a call?

    R.
Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

Coventry's login setup is a perennial pain in the bum.

The good news is that once you get your web ID you'll never need another one.

    The bad news is

    1) The login is a two screen process - BUT once you enter the second screen (after uder ID/DOB) this is treated as a login attempt - even if you stop and go 'back' to the first screen rather than proceeding to finish the login [Who else does that?]

    2) 'Timeouts' - where you delay logging in or where your browser 'hangs' for some reason after you enter the second screen are a common occurence - are are also treated as a login attempt

    3) After three login attempts you have to wait for Coventry to send out the same form you use for initial registration, enter your 'new' password and personal information on the form, send it back and wait (an indeterminate period) until Coventry staff have re-entered the details. Just re-registering after a failed login can take up to a week therefore.

    4) Once you get the 'your details are blocked' message you must NOT re-attempt to submit your user ID and DOB again. Doing this simply causes a SECOND form to be sent out to you. Although the forms appear identical they are not - each is uniquely bar coded (and is anonymous for your protection) BUT Coventry only registers the second form even if you put identical items on each. Suppose you sent off the first form - and ignored the second one received (thiking it a duplicate). However long you wait your re-registration will NOT be processed and you will never get access to your accounts.

    5) The Coventry say they won't contact you when your registration is ready for use either! The best they can do is tell you if it is ready when you call up (on spec) and identify yourself over the phone. This rather defeats the idea of an online service!

I am currently waiting for a re-registration form from them as I somehow entered my details incorrectly the other day (Oh, and when you are trying to log in they don't help either by only asking for the SAME items as they asked for the first time) This has probably happened to me about 10 or 12 times over two years.

So, when the inevitable happens and you do make a mistake, take a deep breathe and be patient!
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam
  • I also have a Coventry account and looked back at the paperwork I got when I opened mine and it was something they did post to you.

Be warned though - I find their website one of the MOST annoying ones I've used for button positioning ever. All their submit buttons are over on the left hand side of the page rather than the right and the screens don't flow that well - you have to keep reselecting your (in my case, only) account whenever you move between functions and on bad days it can get really annoying!

Are you switching account? If so, hope it goes smoothly - it took 6 months for all my DDs to be moved, and only then because I got fed up with their excuses and phoned all the companies myself to switch them - got done in 2 weeks then.

Fortunately, I don't have any DD's on any of my accounts, they're purely for savings. Oh, except for our joint Barclays account, which we've had for over 40 years.

Oh, there are DD's on my savings accounts that I've set up for transfering funds. But that's done on an as-when basis.

Once the account is set up and you have your log in details I find this account is great. Lets face it if you make a mistake more than three times when logging in the problem is yours not Coventries. I find their telephone folk efficient and recommend them.
    Change is here to stay

    Oh Eck...what am I in for.

I did once have three failed attempts at logging in to the Nationwide BS site.
Having been told by customer services that it would take up to seven working days to get me re-registered, I was not pleased. This was a Thursday, which meant, with two weekends in between, it could have taken getting on for two weeks.
I told them that I would have no choice then, but to move my substantial savings elswhere, as I could not be without access to my money for such a long period, especially if it could happen again.

I received a new password on the Saturday!

So I am still not too sure, when/how do you get the Web ID as per the OP? I am in the same position having posted off my security details, which they say to allow 3/4 days to process, but there is no mention of receiving a Web ID. They only say they will not acknowledge receipt of the security details.

Ah ha...(is there a light bulb smiley) I just looked at the 'A guide to operating your account leaflet 50 Plus e save', which you should have.

On the second page under BEFORE YOU BEGIN Passwords bit you'll find the bottom paragraph...

As soon as we have registered your password and memorable words we'll post you a letter containing your Web ID. Bla Bla Bla:o

Pays to read then! Seems to be a lot of postal work for this internet account, with Egg everything was online not a single letter. I only read the bit about Security Details have to be in Caps after I had filled them in lower case, but the helpline said it would be OK so long as legible, here's hoping.
