FAI/ Hip Impingement

Hi, does anyone have any experience with this?
Im 49 years old and went to my GP in sept as my hip/groin pain had got too much to bear, along with the loss of mobility.
I was sent for x rays, and armed with anti inflammatories and co codamol, left assuming it was Osteo Arthritis, and feeling prematurely old !
Went back to GP for X Ray results, and was shocked to be told i was being referred to an Ortho surgeon in the area, who has an interest in Hip Impingement, and the Gp went on to describe the surgery available.
I see the consultant in December, but im finding it harder and harder to walk far without pain, sitting for long, getting up from a sitting position etc.
If there is anyone here who has experience of this condition i would be grateful for advice.
Many thanks

Have 1st hand experience of this
I had suffered for 8 years or so with progressive pain in hip/groin
Finally got it diagnosed and had surgery in April of this year
Generally I believe it is called a GANZ procedure after professor Ganz who is a swiss surgeon
I however had mine done privatly through keyhole surgery at the Wellington Hospital in London
Chap to see is Mr Villar - he also works out of Cambridge Lea hospital
I am still somewhat travelling the road of recovery - mine was quite complex in that I had a number of things that needed correcting
You will be fine - Physio is ubber ubber important post surgery so ensure it is all booked prior
feel free to PM me if you need any details0 -
Many thanks for the information.
another question for any one in the know if i may?
Had my first WFI at jobcentre this week, and the adviser told me i should make a claim for DLA as my problems have been ongoing for a long time, and naturally will continue and deteriorate for some time to come. Should i make a claim, as i have seen on here that it is very difficult and demoralising? Am i really entitled to make a claim for this benefit?

Hi, if you have been advised to claim then claim, but remember when answering the questions to give the reply when you are at your worst, ie if your pain subsides when its warm weather and your in agony when its cold then answer the questions as you are at your worst. Also the DLA reject a lot of claims if they do with yours make sure you appeal. Hope your pain eases soon0

Thanks for that !
The pain and mobility problems are caused by overgrowth of bone in the hip joint, so walking, bending, even sitting too long causes severe pain, i get less pain if i lie down but with an active 9 year old son thats not possible lol
So i guess most days are the same.
