My Dad wants to give me 2000 euro. He is in Ireland, and I am in the UK.
What is the most cost effective way of doing this? Should he do an international bank transfer? Write me a sterling cheque? Send me a Euro cheque?
Thanks if you can advise!

Euroland offers a free Euro Transfer up to €10K. I should imagine that this is available in Ireland also.
These are free to receive. Payment is automatically converted by the UK bank. Conversion rates vary quite a bit from bank to bank.Dagobert0 -

HeyBigSpender,
Do not use international bank transfer. It is expensive and slow.
Whenever I transfer funds from one of my accounts in Ireland to one of my accounts in the UK, I always use www.currency.ie. Best rate (fixed before you transact), no commission and same-day transfer.0
