JSA and Going abroad to look for work

Hi,

I am a recent graduate (Jul 2008) and have been signing on JSA (since Aug 2008) to help me while I look for work but have not had much luck, attended numerous interviews and have been unsuccessful, and my application forms have all failed to attract interest from potential employers to date. I have now bought a working holiday visa to go test my luck in Australia for a year, have attracted interest from graduate recruitment specialists down under and been gifted the airfare and a loan to meet other costs from my parents/siblings, and I have some family to lean on should I need it living in Australia already so I will be leaving by december 2008. However, I have a JSA interview next week to find out why I have not found work yet and how I can find work, and I would rather not go through that given that I will be leaving soon. So, the question is, should I just ring JSA today and sign off stating that I will be going abroad to look for work for a longer period leaving next week (slight exaggeration as will be leaving in 4 weeks from now but wont miss 2 weeks more of JSA cash), or wait till my JSA interview next week and reveal it then.
Will appreciate any response.

Regards

MK.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Hi having worked briefly for DWP I would wait until your interview and ask the person what they advise you to do. you are signing to say you are seeking employment, which if you are not doing theoretically you should sign off, but some people get a job offer and still sign until they start thte job. I would definatley wait for interview though. HTH

If you are going away in December for a year then you would be expected to look for realistic temporary work to satisfy the available and seeking criteria.

E.g. temp retail work or office jobs.
