Egg Card additional carholder application

Hi I applied for the Egg cashback card last week nad requested the addition of a second cardholder so we can use it for everything and take advantage of the cashback. I got sent a letter requesting "two items of identification for the person you'd like to add as an additional cardholder" - "...utility bill, council tax bill, credit card statement or bank statement".

However all of the paper bills we receive at this address happen to be in my name and we do alot of our billing paperless online. Would it be ok to send two bank statements (from different dates) for our joint account? I rang egg and the guy wasn't sure and thought they needed to be different types of ID but there is no mention of this on the letter they sent. We don't have any credit cards and the council tax and water bills she pays quaterly so won't be getting another paper bill from them for another month yet.

Otherwise will a payslip do? Otherwise everything else is more than 3 months old. I was thinking of including the most recent water bill and putting a note on it to say that we don't have anything else. Please advise!

Also will my card be sent out before or after all the second cardholder stuff is sorted? Thanks

If I were you, I'd send 1) joint a/c bank statement 2) most recent water bill (or other utility bill) and hope that's acceptable.

Has your partner considered adding her name & address to the electoral roll, if eligible?

Being on the electoral register obviates the need to produce ID documents every time you apply for credit/bank/savings accounts, as the providers can check your ID electronically ;)

  • My husband and I are both on the electoral register and we still needed to provide utility bills and bank statements when we got our egg money card + additional card.

Banks and credit card companies (including Egg) normally use the electoral register to verify an applicant's ID electronically.

Unless you've moved house/enrolled recently, I would inspect the electoral register. You can do this at your nearest public library. Pay particular attention to the way your details are recorded. An extra line may be inserted/omitted, for instance, where a block of flats or house name is involved. You'd be surprised how often this happens.

When you apply for credit facilities, bank accounts etc.or to the credit reference agencies, ensure your address matches the details as they appear on the electoral roll and you'll avoid the inconvenience of sending docs through the post.

PS. If you opted out of the edited register (which is sold to anyone who wants to buy and which may be viewed in a public library), you can check the full version at your local electoral registration office ;)

  • That's really interesting. Makes me wonder though, we have lived here 8 years, and I have checked the form my council sent me through for last time, and the address matches perfectly - I don't have a house name or anything unusual, just a number and street name. I do always opt out of the published register though. It obviously hasn't hurt my credit, as I've got both the egg card and a new mortgage in the last few months.
