I open 3 tabs of search engines so I have google Yahoo and AskJeeves

So when I have these 3tabs open I just choose Tools, Options, Use current pages.

    So my homepage address is

    http://www.google.co.uk/|http://uk.yahoo.com/|http://uk.ask.com/

If you look up on the right (just beside the address bar). There are already some search engines built into Firefox. If you click add engines, you can add more sites to use for your searchs. I like this because I keep this set on Wikipedia when I want to refference something on that site. Just type your search into the box, and hit return.

By default Firefox comes with Google to start with - so you see a google 'G' icon in the search box.

If you click the 'G' in the search box, it drops down to let you choose one of the other search engines

    (If that's what your asking)

Apart from adding search plugins, you can also add 'Quick Searches'
I prefer to use the Quick Search system rather than add plugins.
Means I can search a lot of sites without adding lots of plugins. And lots of sites don't have plugins

    E.g.
    1. Go to http://www.argos.co.uk
    2. Right-Click the search box on that page and select "add a keyword for the search"
    3. Give it any name you like and for keyword type argos.
    4. Then save it to your bookmarks somewhere (You have a Quick Searches folder by default)
From now on typing argos followed by a keyword will search that site for that keyword

e.g. if I type argos radio in my address bar, this page comes up

You can do this with almost any page that has a simple search box :D
