Co Op debit card fraud

Hi,
I have had my co op account emptied to the tune of £614.00.
I noticed a pending transaction on Friday for this amount and immediatley called customer services who told me the card is now stopped and another will be sent. Then was passed to the fraud dept who said the transaction will still come out!
I was not happy with this so popped into my local branch and a very helpful assistant called the fraud dept and found out there was no record of my call to them. She then proceeded to get the £614.00 transaction removed from the "list" and told me that it should not come out of the account now, but on checking my online account tonight its there, to a company in dublin thats sells electrical goods, Luzerntech.com, and now there is not enough money to cover my DD's that will come out tomorrow.
Has anyone any idea how long its going to take the bank to refund my money, and will the bank be liable for any charges that I will incur due to bounced DD's?
I Really cant understand why banks will allow fraudsters to get money this way when they have been informed by a customer that they havent used the card for this purchase, it just seems backward to me and in the meantime the customer suffers!
Thanks

I don't know about the Co-Op but Nationwide returned fraudulent payments to a Flex account in less than a fortnight.
If you have a phone number to contact the Co-Op, it might be worth phoning them to get some kind of temporary overdraft. If you do this, make a note of the precise time of your call and the name of the person with whom you speak. That way, they would be able to find the recording of the call if there were a problem.0 -
Thanks for the response,
Its a basic bank account so no overdraft unfortunatley.
I have the number of the assistant who I spoke too, so I will call her tomorrow and see what will happen next. Im just so annoyed at telling them I didnt use the card for that amount and still being debited for it.
I just hope its not going to take them weeks to reimburse me.
Have to say the assistant was helpful tho, and didnt take no for an answer when she told the fraud department to refuse the payment, although obviously they didnt listen to her either :mad:0 -
I think it's less that Co-op won't reverse the transaction, and more of a case that they can't. This is common, that the bank can't reverse the transaction after a certain point. However, you do not need to worry as you will get the money back, and any charges incurred for bounced direct debits should be reversed by the bank. If on the off chance you can't get them to reverse the charges, then write a letter of complaint and it should get sorted pretty quick.
If any of your payee's add charges on for late payments, explain the situation to them too - in fact ring them ASAP and explain before the direct debits have a chance to bounce. I know that Virgin Media will charge £10 for a bounced DD and £10 for a late payment if not paid within a few days! Again, if they apply charges then complain, and if needed you can always ask the bank for evidence of the fraud, which can be shown to your payee's.0 -

I bank with the Co-Op and have been subject to fraud, I too was like you and worried about my DD's and was advised that I would not be liable for any bank charges, my money was back in my account after about 10 days.0
