  • Hi

I would try posting this on the travel forum (sorry - not sure of its exact name). I asked on there when I was travelling to Birmingham and got some fantastic ideas for free places to visit and where to go for money off vouchers.

    Oldway Mansion is very pretty:

Cockington is always great, although it's in neighbouring Torquay and not Paignton - I grew up nearby and spent many happy childhood hours wandering around the park/woods at Cockington. The village with its thatched cottages is a big draw: http://www.bbc.co.uk/devon/outdoors/walks/cockington.shtml

If you like animals, how about Occombe Farm:

If you time it right, you can see the steam trains going from Paignton (look for the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway for more info) - so you get to admire and wave at the trains even if you can't afford the tickets!

If you can afford it, Paignton Zoo really is fantastic. You can also get bus/train to lots of great areas like the South Hams or even up to Dartmoor. Hope you have a great time!

  • my moms chap works on the steam railway and they have a santa special with the usual thomas train and a load of scary outfits(giant rabbitetc) they got when the theatre closed down:rotfl:
i used to live in Brixham so know the area well though have to say its pricy most of the year round!
get offers from the tourist info centre for living coasts /the zoo etc.
this time of year is a bit cold for a lot of things, a trip to trago mills is good if you aint been, combine shopping with a few rides for the kids.
is there any type of thing you are particulary into:confused: ?
maybe the riviera centrein torquay for wave pool swimming. public transport is regular but pricy but gets you to all the usual places.
cockington village as mentioned above is nice and usually has events on for kids.
