Channel 4. Secret Millionaire. A Property Developer

There are a few programmes on TV that illicit a predictable response from Mr. Phirefly EVERY WEEK without fail. One of them is Grand designs:
"Will they manage to pull up the concrete screed and re-lay the underfloor heating before the floods? Will they acheive the modernist dream in this leafy homecounties suburb without it all descending into pastiche? Will they all DIE?"
Another is The Secret Millionaire.
Every week without fail he pontificates throughout the entire show that by now, if you're running a homeless shelter and 'Bob' turns up with a channel 4 camera crew claiming to be filming a documentary about returning to your hometown to investigate volunteering opportunities, you can thank your lucky stars and start writing a shopping list because a cheque for £15000 is a-coming your way.
Or are C4 so elitist that they assume salt-of-the-earth Maggie who's blind in one eye and runs the local after school kids club for single mums wouldn't possibly watch cerebral, earnest programmes like The Secret Millionaire....
O and P.S. I'm cross with Chek Whyte. His HQ is down the road form Tha Wharf, it used to be the Co-Operative college where I and my buddies spent an idyllic childhood enjoying the LISTED art deco lido there. The 'philanthropist' is currently bulldozing it :mad:0 -
I feel nauseous too when I have seen the programme - but at the end of it, people have got some money to help their charitable work - and if it gives the "millionaires" a glow well, who cares.
Have they had more than one season of this programme? If not then the shows would all have been wrapped up before the first one was screened so one eyed Maggie wouldnt have been familiar with the modus operandi.0 -

LOl amusing. Yes, theres been 2 series. The 1st was a little less formulaic. I reckon I could spot a secret millionaire at 20 paces now.0 -
If one of them would like to come and patronise me and give me £15,000 I reckon I'd put up with it.

Yes, that one. A lot of the pople behind the set up of C4 were earnest but naive socialists. The earnest went, the naivity bacame arrogance.:o0 -
Well, C4 doesnt actually make programmes, do they. They may commission them but they are made by individual production companies.0
