Can you clarify the term "greedy"
a vet who charges almost double for the same procedure as a vet (of roughly the same size and modernity of practice, and whose rent is probably dearer!) 1 mile down the road.0 -
I'm near Rayleigh and I've just had a look at your pricelist and I'm very pleasantly suprised:beer: Put it this way, a price difference of over £10 a consultation and literally half the price for vaccs. Although I remember seeing the advertising when it opened I forgot all about it:o probably because at the time the dog was having his ops and because there were some minor(ish) problems there is no way I would have changed vets then due to needing continuity of care. But I'll certainly give them a go......once I check out who provides the out of hours service:eek:
thats great orlao! I think you'll be surprised when you see that we offer state of the art facilities at half the price of other vets! many of our customers travel for over an hour to get to us as it still works out cheaper for them!
oh, the out of hours is done by vetsnow in witham, hope thats ok!!0 -

the vet world is changing - Up to now it has mostly remained fairly homogenous, but now basically its moving to a system where you can either go to a 'cheap and cheerful' place or a very exclusive, expensive place if you have more money or want the absolute best for your pet. Personally I think that the more choice offered to the customer the better0 -
hi stirlo - in the case of the vet who charges double...his practice is not as well-equipped and staffed as to the cheaper one down the road, it certaimnly doesn't look 'exclusive' or special in any way either. i guess the cheaper vet has the philosophy of charging less for his services in order to attract more customers, and hence he has a higher profit as a result, and is able to plough back money into his business.0

We have just found a local "charity" vet to take our cats to for the routine vancinations and neutring - thats all they do (as far as i can see). They charge much less than the normal vet , is in the same area (so rent etc similar) and any profitsd they make go to look after stray dogs and cats.
we will use them for the routine things and then a normal vet if they are ever ill - the insurance (less excess) will pay for the treatment.
WRT flea and worming tretments we get drontal/frontline along with food off vetuk who are excellent. I refuse to pay double the price for flea treatment from our orginal vet.0 -

Simon I know you said you wouldn't charge for a DOA, but you probably do have a price for it.
The reason I ask is because a few people are saying bigger priced vets, better service. I wonder if thats true?
My vets as you know, charges £120 for a mid week 9pm DOA, whats the going rate for this?
The reason I ask is I think mine is pretty expensive & I don't think I get/got great treatment there

When I had to take my cat to Medivet between 10 & 11pm on a Saturday night it was £100 +vat to walk in the door! It was more expensive after midnight and the price dropped slightly at 6am.
I don't think you got great treatment there either FWIW, certainly not while you were so upset but were they good vets before when Ted was alive?0 -

Thats all I did was go in, there was no treatment charge because he was dead when we arrived.
Mine was a weekday evening.
Yes they seemed OK while he was alive, but he only went for boosters & twice for fighting.0 -

"Going rate" for OOH is about £100(inc VAT) for late evening / early morning in Northwest England and I cant see me going up from this in the near to medium term future, as it is already quite large. My experience and knowledge would suggest that the OOH fee varies little across the country. There are practices who charge much less and much more (the SPVS fee survey bears this out as does the data I get from my accountant.).
This fee does go up for calls at "stupid o clock" (to £140 inc VAT) and I have no problems with a stupidly large fee at that time, as the vast majority of calls in the small hours should have/could have been dealt with hours earlier. I did get a call at 4-20 the other morning for a HBC cat - now that was a real emergency and about the first silly hours call that has been genuine / necessary for the last 5 years or so. The outcome was not good but at least the cat is at peace.Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0
