in Credit cards
I have recently got a smile credit card and smile current account. I sent a direct debit form to pay the full balance on the credit card from my smile current account and requested the payment date to be 3rd of the month. Nothing appeared in my list of direct debits but smile confirmed by secure message that the DD was set up but does not show in the list as it is internal.
I have just looked at my first credit card statement and it says full payment to be paid by 31 Dec 05 or minimum payment by 10 Jan 06. Nowhere does it say that the full payment will be collected by direct debit and the date it will be taken. I find this a bit unusual as other credit cards I have have always state this on the statement.
Can anybody who has as smile credit card and pays the full amount off by smile direct debit please tell me if the above looks right and how can you confirm that the direct debit is going to take place. I don't want to be caught paying interest and charges for non payment.
I have sent smile a secure message about this but it is taking about a week for them to reply at the monment.

Just a thought...I don't bank with Smile, but could it be that you need to pay by the 31st December so as to stop the DD being collected on the 10th January? They may need 10 days (although this does seem excessive) notice to cancel/amend the automated DD collection request.0 -

I don't think this is the case. It appears full payment is required earlier than minimum regardless of the way you pay. Appears to be an enticement to pay minimum so then incur interest charges.Regards

Hi erb. This is completely normal (I have a similar pair of offset dates on mine, and have been paying by DD for yonks).
However, as you say it doesn't prove that a DD will be taken, and I can't actually find anywhere that tells me.
I've never had any problems with secure messaging, they're usually extremely quick. Maybe try sending another? If you sent it with a subject of 'visa enquiries' last time, maybe try 'direct debits' or vice versa.
Hope this is of some help.
