Voluntary work

Hi I have an oppunity to go into the plumbing trade (which I have disbaility) and i attend college one day a week into plumbing.

I have oppunity to work alongside with a corgi register plumber and I really want to do my gas training which I will have to pay but takes up to 1 year to complete and gain my corgi qualifications (I have been unemployed for 6 years) You cant gain your corgi unless you work alongside with a corgi register plumber to build portfolio that is required for the corgi assements etc.

My wife gets carer alllowance for me and I get DLA middle rate care. We get income support too

The plumber is happy to take me on but I do this on a volantary basic so I am gain my qualifcation and experience on the same time.

Can I do this working voluntary? What will be affected and what hours are restricted or is the employer must be requried to pay me or?

Thanks to those who reply to this

I`m afraid the answer isnt the one you want to hear, but if you do work that you would expect to be paid for then its not voluntary and the dwp wouldnt see it as such, tbh whilst its admirable that you are prepared to do this I think the plumber is just being bl***y cheeky,he could at least pay you NMW which could then be made up with tax credits
Might be worth having a chat with a disability employment advisor at the JC+
see exactly what your options are
    good luck
