AVG and Invalid CTF file?

Please be gentle - I don't know much!

I have AVG on my laptop. For the past week or two its shown that there is an 'Invalid Update Control CTF file' and now it's telling me I am not protected - 'database is outdated'.

I try and run an update but it just tells me 'update failed - Invalid Update Control CTF file'

What can I do to rectify this?

Just delete everything with .ctf extension in folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg8\update\download
Then run update as usual and all sorted!
