Have flown there its a fairly long one the planes are normally wider than the stuff that nips over to spain ,cyprus and the like so that helps the penned in feeling.
If you havnt booked yet you can stop over for basically the price of a hotel room with some companys. When we wanted to go to New Orleans Prewave we flew to New York had a full day and night then went on.On way back stopped at Boston. We didnt have little ones so it may be more hassle and expense than its worth for you.
Have both been and comeback on less than half filled planes so you may get lucky.

    HAVE FUN

we did it for the first time last year with our two, one was 18mth the other 4. Having been to the US lots of times this was our first visit with the kids, with our oldest we wouldnt even have thought about it when she was 18mth but now we wished we had, biggest mistake missed out on so many hols because of this. Our two had never been on a plane until we went to Atlanta last year.

Just back again from our second visit this time to Miami and they are 6 and 3 and again no problems at all and on this one Air France (Ahh) didnt even have seat back TVs so our 6 year old wasnt happy.

Its surprising how they handle the flights, we were lucky in a way we fly from Newcastle and went through Paris or Amsterdam on an early flight (they were up at 3am each time) so they were woken up early and for our youngest this helped him sleep quite a lot. With meals and plenty of toys the time flew by quicky. Total flight times were around 15 hours on some legs, including stop overs.

I would purchase a seat for the 20mth old its more expensive but worth it in the end.
Dont worry about it just enjoy the experience

You can buy small MP4 video players like this which will hold several hours of their favourite entertainment and the battery time is very good too as there are no moving parts as with portable DVD players. Then you also have them for the rest of the holiday for an occasional bit of peace and quiet.
