HELP I have no idea whats going on with my savings!

Ok this is quite important and my mum is a bit useless. I have had savings in what i think are shares since i was a baby, these shares matured for both me and my sister when i turn 21 which was last wednesday. Not sure what matured means or whether that was what they meant but basically a couple of yeas ago we asked f we could have the savings out then and they either advised against it or said no explicitly. Think it was the latter but my mum spoke to them.
Throughout the years we have had a few update letters from them i suppose regularly though as ive moved home i havnt kept track and they have all been binned. I forget what company they are from but my mum checks her direct debit and it says NPI (???) yet ive googled it and it doesnt seem to be a company?? The company Friends Provident though does ring a bell im sure it is with them.
ANYWAY i need to know how to get the money ?!! Thought the would send a cheque on my bday or a letter or something and they havnt atall!! I need to use some of the money to pay my rent in january and im worried they either wont give it us or its gone down to ZERO because of this credit crunch business (which i dont understand about).
I understand its hard for you to help when i dont know the company but im worried they wont give it me soon enough or its value is decreased because of the shares.
Im desperate and my family knows nothing so any enlightenment on this would be greatly appreciated!
Thankyou.

You need to find a policy document that defines the type of investment that you have, without that you might not be able to claim anything from the company. NPI do exist, if its them your money is with.

Shares are not savings, IMO as they can go up and down!

Hi if you have lost all the paper work to this account dont worry thay will still be sble to teace the account foe you but it may take a little time so you need to get on to them.
You will also have to prove that your the person you say you are. Thay will tell you what thay need to do this.
Good luck:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Don't rush to cash it all in unless you need all of the money right now. Find out where it is invested first. For example fixed interest/gilt investments might be paying good rates which you could not match if you took it all out and stuck the part you didn't need in a bank.
Even if invested in shares you might take the view a bad time to sell is just after they have dropped in value (unless you belive they will fall further of course)
So check where it is invested and whether you have the option to take only some of the money out as you need it.0
