I've a funny feeling "devoid of all staple items" is a bit of an exaggeration!

ASDA sales are up this year on last, maybe it's just a case of demand being more than supply?

I regularly go to a few Asda's. All within 40 miles of each other. Three of them are fine, one (the biggest) is not. I've only been 2 or 3 times to that one, but each time it's been untidy, and has loads of empty shelves. The others are never like that.

I work for one of the major supermarkets (although they havnt been mentioned in this thread). As you all know, food costs are rising fast and competition is fiercer than it has been in the past. Supermarkets are cutting costs wherever they can, and one of the main areas is staff. Less staff to fill the shelves means less availability. Obviously we try our hardest to keep full availiability and give the consumer what they want, but been expected to do 3 or more jobs at once is not easy! Unlike other supermakret chains, the one I work at ensures the shelves are tidy at all times and that availiability is a priority as soon as deliveries arrive.

My local Asda has had this problem since opening 3 years ago. On occasions, milk has even been out of stock. The bakery department is often poorly stocked, as is the fruit and veg. A few weeks ago I went with a shopping list of 30 items and 14 were out of stock.
It's not just a matter of the stock being in store but not put on the shelves due to lack of staff, the price tickets are reversed on the shelves which usually signifies that they don't have the stock to put there and with some items it's like this week after week. It seems to me that the stock base levels need to be increased so that stock is delivered to the stores before levels get low enough to sell out before the next delivery.
  • We have the same problem in our area too - it was never like this when the store first opened and it was always packed-not now though people have given up going in there. Oh well it's their loss!
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

i work in a supermarket too and i understand peoples concerns, but the idea that saving money by having less staff is a wrong idea as the staff wouldnt be able to stock the shelves which means customers get fed up and shop somewhere else which means less money taken by the store

Digging this one up again, I was in the Corby Asda today and it seemed fine to me. Around 5pm too so not exactly the quietest time.

If you don't like it, the managers name is Elizabeth Hunt and the phone number is 01536 208301.

I believe Asda are much better than the robbing barstewards that are Thiefsco and Scamsbury's.
