got some issues with my medion akoya ex mim 2060

I have a medion akoya ex mim 2060 white laptop,i did not use from new for ages,was sitting in its box from new for a while since i started using it,this was sometime ago now,anyway i have been using it since then but have two isues with it one was a problem since its first use and the other problem was later on.
The first issue i have is when you turn it on it boots up funny etc i need to change the time and date and year everytime to get it to boot up right etc,i had a local guy look at it give me advise well he aid probably a battery inside that keeps the date and time etc when switched off is needing replaced.
I find this strange as these last years or in fact i never hear of anyone replacing them.He had a quick look to see if he could find where the battery was but could not find it,well the places that could be unscrewed and looked under,he reckons that it was way inside and really cause the item was new,probably a nightmare to do and as it was white did not want to sort it out.
I was wondering could this be a software problem etc,setting problem is as he says a battery needs replaced,but why when the item was like this from new?
The other issue i have when happens months later is the battery does not keep a charge anymore,it will not work unless i have the laptop switched on to the mains,again when this happened it had very little use,is there a way i can check a battery on the computer or could there be a setting or update issue required,i am thinking of buying a new battery as laptop is still like new but would hate to find out that it was not needed as was not the problem.
By the way if i do need a battery for the laptop who has the best prices for them in the uk,i have found many others elling them but they come from hong kong etc,i would want it to be bp-8011 14.8v 4.4 ah and part number 4011708 also would need to be white.

1st problem, your friend is probably right, the CMOS battery has failed and needs replacing
2nd without knowing the chemical compostion of the battery it's hard to be certain if this advice is bad or not. Discharge the battery fully, then charge overnight

If it's from Aldi take it back.
However you should have checked it straight away when you got it.0
