B & Q kitchen deal - bit of a con!

Looking to price kitchens to fit something in the litttle cottage we've bought in France. We picked up a brochure form our local B & Q about 10 days ago, & the price list showed that a standard 600m base unit (in the cheaper range) was £38 and a 600m door in the style we liked (Ivory Classic) was £20. Went in today as they're advertising a half price sale - great, we thought! Came home with the autumn brochure to work out a budget - but the price for both items previously mentioned are now £76 and £40 repectively. So - the half price offer makes them exactly the same price as they were 10 days ago. Have I missed something here or are they trying to pull the wool over our eyes? And can there be any justification in increasing prices by 100% in the current economic climate?

    Yes.
And can there be any justification in increasing prices by 100% in the current economic climate?

No, but they don't care, they're there to extract our money from us.

They're all at it! MFI was always having a "sale" and as soon as one finished another one started. There may have been a few days in the year when the the goods were actually sold at the "proper" price (and pity the people who hadn't cottoned on that if they waited a week a new "sale" would save them a lot of money) but it was always one offer after another.

The sofa companies are the same, DFS, SCS, etc. "Half price sale, previously £XXX, now £YYY, after event price £ZZZ". It's all a big con.

Just take it as the "sale" price is the norm and avoid the odd day here and there that the price is more - they have to do that occasionally so they can say "sold for £XXX on ab/cd/2008" to make it all legal I suppose.

perhaps u are unaware but any company selling kitchens / bathrooms / sofas / carpets is always running a promotion.

No one ever knows the real price of things they always have some form of half price double discount save 10% day/weekend..never ever buy anything as its half price as it wont be find the product u want then look round for the best price.
The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.

They have actually advertised the ‘before sale’ prices as double last week’s ‘before sale’ prices – which I am not sure that they can do?
They did have a 40% off sale on doors last week – so this ‘50% off sale’ is a lot more expensive than last week!
We spoke to a B&Q salesman who said it was what they called ‘retro pricing’! And they were just doing what MFI did. He also said that units were flying off the shelves! So they are conning us. The units remain expensive in this so called sale.
Note that the trims have not increased in price – so with the 50% off are better value.
