Electric Tariff can anyone explain please?
I have just signed up for B Gas click 6 electric only.
Have not been switched yet as they r having a problem it seems.
My question is -
It is a two tier Tarrif and i think the first 125kwh is at a higher price but what they dont mention is when is this reset? ie is that the first 125kwh per month - 3months - annually?
how can i work out my bills without this knowledge? I am sure its all done to confuse
Having not written down the tarrif when i signed up I now cant find out what it is! tried searching British gas site but it must be well hidden!
thanks
Mike

It's 125kWh per quarter."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100

It is 125kWh over a quarter or 500kWh per year.
(Formally, it's the first 1.xy kWh per day)
From this page:
http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy/electricity/click-energy.html
click the right hand "Price Finder" tab then enter your postcode to find your prices.0 -
it works out that approx 1.3 units per day are at rate 1, if your bill covers exactly 91 days then you would have 125 kWh charged at rate 1. And it's not done to confuse, it is because BG don't have a standing charge, so the higher rate covers the cost of running the meter xSunny in Southampton.0

What costs are there to run a meter? Surely it has already paid for itself over and over with all the charges incurred. Also the gas/electric companies like to say that their meters don't go wrong, lol. If that's the case let's do away with the standing charge.0
-
British gas don't own the meters, the local electricity board own your electric meter, and transco own the gas. The supplier will be charged for having ownership of the meter, regardless of how much has been used.So if you left the country for a year, you wouldn't pay BG any money, despite the fact they would be paying "rent" for your meter still. So the two tier system is quite fair to be honest. xSunny in Southampton.0

If that's the case, how come I still had a standing charge on my gas and electric even though I had left my property for a couple of months?0
-
Are you with British Gas? Your property would of had to be vacant for the full duration of a bill. If you had a bill for examply January 1st to April 1st, and the start and final reads on the bill were both the same because no gas or electricity had been used, then the billing total would be £0.00. I used to be with British Gas and the property was vacant for a couple of months but I was still being charged a standing charge. This was a few years ago though, but I'm sure if what you are saying is right then I shouldn't have been charged.0

It depends on how many years ago. British gas only started to introduce no standing charge tariffs in 2000BallandChain wrote: »I used to be with British Gas and the property was vacant for a couple of months but I was still being charged a standing charge. Thanks for the link and info Premier. This was before 2000 and I had no idea they have scrapped the standing charge! I'm getting a standing charge for my electricity with EDF. If British Gas scrapped their standing charge I wonder why the other utilities haven't. I'm guessing that the units (for gas/electricity) are more pricier with British Gas to compensate for scrapping the standing charge?0
