Estimating costs

Hi everyone

I am not sure if this is correct board to put this query but here goes. I am looking at buying my first house, with my girlfriend, in the next 6 - 18 months. I want to try and work out our likely utility and other costs etc so I can work out free cash flow. Car insurance and loans are easy but the rest I have no experience of. Therefore does anyone know of any reasonably reliable figures that one would be likely to expect?

We are looking for what I would describe as a small family home. 3 bedrooms, kitchen, front and back living room, conservatory if can get one :-)

I know there are many variable buts I am asking our friends etc in similar circumstances but I really need a ball park figure to start with. Can anyone give me any advice/pointers for websites I havent managed to find ;-)

I can see plenty on the house buying costs but not the running.

How much does it cost you now? Scale it up. It does depend a lot on your own use and insulation levels etc.

Ask when you start viewing houses how much the bills are - it's perfectly acceptable and the energy perfomance certificates will give you an idea.
Although people who don't go out to work in theory have higher energy bills...

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned I have tried scaling up but with currently I am living with my parents and any house I buy will be probably be about a fifth to a quarter of the size. It is one of my ball parks figures though.

I spoke with my bank and they asked if I could prepare a estimate. Being an accountant I pretty much retain good detail of my current outgoing so its just the costs I dont currently incur that i am having problems with :-s It is kinda of chicken and egg with houses/areas looking at dependant on what I can afford and vice versa ;-)

Have a look through the other forum - the banrupcty one I think - where people list their outgoings on there - you'll get a good idea. There's a thought though the OR has a list of accepted amounts - there was a link to it somewhere.

Official receivor. It's juts as a idea of what they think levels of outgoings should be - last time I looked it wasn't too far off
