dehumidifier question.

recently bought a dehumidifier and want to know why the instructions say not to plug into an extension lead.

anyone tell me why?

    Is it a high wattage unit ! If so it will be to avoid voltage drop and overheating of the cable on a lightweight and long extension lead . Also it probably requires an earth connection and a lot of extensions designed for double insulated power tools etc only have 2 cores, live and neutral.

    intructions say - power supply 220 - 240 v / 50 Hz
    power consumption 235w

  • The power consumption does not seem that high.
    One reason might be because of the water tank in the dehumidifier. It is not a good idea to have a trailing mains socket on the floor in case the dehumidifier is knocked and water spilt.

    I wish 'do not' instructions would have a 'why', then an informed decision could be made.

    as de-hunidifeires are left on for a few hours at a time some longer extension leads will have been left in a coil and the heat generated could be intresting..
