i have just started the process of switching my gas and electric from prepayment to credit meters
the gas is being done tomorrow and they have told me to ring up with a reading after a month to get a figure for my d/debit
when i tell them how many units i have used in the first month they will obviously be all tier 1 units so the bill will be higher than it really is or do they allow for that when i give the reading

They will allow for that - they just need an idea of how many kwh you are likely to use in a year to calculate a monthly cost.0
