BT Together Opt(3) vs. 1899

Hi
We currently spend 60 quid a month on our landline (including BT's line rental)!!!
Would it be more benificial to use Option 3 BT Together (£25.50 per month for free landline calls anytime and 25% off mobiles), or would it be better to use the 1899/Just Dial solution?
I can't work it out for the life of me - £20 each month is mobile calls apparently - so I don't know if this helps make the choice.
I never used to mind paying the bill, but it seems my partner has the thing glued to her ear in the daytime!! :-) since our childrem have been born, and now the bill has escalated.
The BT Option 3 thing does sound good, couple that with a cheaper free mobile call provider, I think it could work.
What are peoples thoughts - many thanks in advance.

BT OPT 3 costs you £15 for the call element. You could make approx 16 calls a day to 01/02 phone numbers for this sort of money if you used 1899.Do you make that number of calls.
You would probaly find yourself much better off registering for 1899 for your 01/02 peak calls.Using 18185 for your mobile calls, and registering for CPS to a free E&W call supplier like Primus Saver 2.It might might also be worth your while getting an orchid dialer,as you want have to remember what number to dial.
If you do change dont forget to ask Bt to put you on OPT1,if you are not already on it. :xmassign: :rudolf: :xmastree:0 -
Thank you very much.
What's an Orchid Dialer (at a guess I would say a "least cost router?")0 -

Yes spot on.This thread explains all http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=15502
Another thing if you do this you dont pay for the service when your away.:Eg holidays. It doesnt take long to recoup your dialer outlay back.0 -
Excellent - found the site, will be ordering one today.
Thanks for clearing that up for me - it all got a little confusing :-)
EDIT: And Merry Christmas back!0 -
Oh, just one other thing - would this mean that we would receive a bill from each of the providers, or do they have some deal somehow with BT that means they get paid that way?0

Alas no you have to pay each seperately. So you end up with four different phone bills but a healthier bank balance.0 -
Yes - for 1899 and 18185, you sign up online with credit or debit card, can view the bill online, and they'll usually email it to you. And a CPS deal will be billed separately too. You might have 4 bills, but will be saving.
On the mobiles - whilst 18185's tariff is very attractive at the moment, this might be a promotional price and not last forever. You might also start looking at mobile phone deals with cashback arrangements, and use that for calling mobiles - at full line rental it certainly isn't worthwhile, so cancel and get a new deal each year.0 -
Oh well - you can't win 'em all!! Still sounds good to me ;-)
Thanks very much for your prompt answers.0 -
Hi again, does anyone know the web address for Primus? The link in the phone article isn't working anymore, and a google search only shows that address.
EDIT: Just checked the 18185 website for costs for landlines and they say that they are 0ppm. It doesn't specify day/eve/weekday at all (like it does for other countries and mobiles), so should I assume that it really is 0ppm for landlines, and if so, is it really worth signing up for another service too?
I know it may all be a promo price, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it :-)
EDIT AGAIN: Scratch that - I've just seen the 4p startup fee for landlines. I really need to learn to open my eyes!0 -
The Planet Talk /Primus Saver site seems to have crashed .Suggest you try later.
Both 1899 and 18185 offer free calls to 01/02 numbers.However 1899 charge 3p connection and 18185 charge 4p connection.0
