Tips for Madrid

A couple of MSE tips:
Travel - the Metro system is very good and you can buy a book of ten tickets which you can share amongst your party. Madrid is fairly compact so you may not need to use many tickets. All journeys cost 1 Euro.
Royal Palace - free to EU nationals on Wednesdays!:j:j Just remember to take your passport with you.
Food and drink- hotel breakfast can be expensive so unless you eat lots then head out to one of the little cafes. Don't assume soft drinks will be cheaper than wine as often the glass of vino tinto was cheaper. The gardens are free and a great place to have a picnic.
