    Hi,

A bit of an insider tip here, Tesco's own brand batteries are good value and are actually made by Panasonic in their Belgium factory, they are exactly the same as Panasonic's own batteries but just have a different outer sleave. Someone also mentioned on here to look out for mAH rating, this is fine for NiCD or NiMH rechargeable batteries but you wont tend to find mAH rating quoted on Zinc carbon or Alkaline batteries, the only thing to look out for when buying non-rechargeables is make sure they are Alkalines as these have typically 3 times the capacity (I know because have tested them in my job) the rest is down to experience because the manufacturers don't quote mAH figures. For the record we did extensive life testing on batteries in a lab test and Panasonic + GP batteries actually both out performed the copper coloured top ones under the same controlled test conditions.
Duracell have a fantastic reputation because they pulled a masterstroke with their advert claiming their batteries last 3 times longer than other batteries, the catch is in the detail because they where comparing them to Zinc Carbon batteries, watch the advert carefully next time its on the telly and you will see them flash the small print up :)
Hope this helps to dispell some myths.

    Good post davep,
I ordered my batteries from a trade catalogue where the mAH numbers were quoted so it was nice and easy to work out the best value ones. You are right about the mAH numbers not being that accessable as I have just check my battery packs now and there are no mAh numbers quoted. Shame really they do not quote them as it would make it easy to work out the best ones to buy. Your tip on the Tesco panasonics is a good one too. By the way is there some "oxygen" super battery available in the UK yet??? I heard about a supa dupa long lasting one (abt 6000mAh) being released in Japan a yr or two ago.

Can't remember the name of the website but there was one where some poor guy tested a bunch of them and quoted the real mAh numbers for a few makes of batteries.

You're right about the Duracells being nothing special only dear. I only recommend them if you see them being sold in super cheap bogoff deals which happen from time to time as the batteries do have expiry dates!! (though this is usually way in the future) Probably more due to the fact that Duracell marketing boys and girls can't seem to leave the packaging alone!!!
