You can try applying for second adult rebate, Council Tax benefit, its' equivalent to a 25% discount if you are entitled. Contact your local Council in the morning as it may not be backdated.2008 wins. DVD player together with Now quiz/Now 2008 DVDs,£25.00 Real People, pair of tickets for London Eye.0

Why are you still supporting her? She receives JSA to support herself with, not so that she has this amount as pocket money! I know she doesn't receive enough to cover all her costs but it it's expected to cover her food and her share of the utilities.0 -
Charge her board and lodgings. £40 a week is a suitable amount and a damned sight cheaper than if she was living alone. You might find it focuses her on getting another job.0

Are you in receipt of HB and CTB yourself? If so although you'll lose the 25% discount, because she's under 25 and in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance income based she's ignored when LA calculate your benefits.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

A person under 20 who has left school or college after 30 April 2008 after undertaking a course at A level or below can be disregarded for Council Tax until the 31 October 2008, regardless of employment status.
This disregard would be applied instead of the single person discount, you need to speak to your local council and request it.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
except we're now in November, so beyond the point where she'd be disregarded for this reasonCheryl0

Yes, but dependent on when she left college there will be part of a disregard due as the single person discount would end when she left college - something is better than nothing and she is entitled to it.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
