You've been paying out £96 a year and you don't know what for?

    Have you asked them?

  • At a guess you have some sort of 'premium' account which probably gives you a higher 'free' overdraft & possibly things like travel insurance. Alternatively, if you have an agreed overdraft facility which you've always used, it could be the monthly charge for that. I'd ask the bank for the info though, but you're unlikely to get anything back after this amount of time.

If it's a current account, and you don't know what it's for, then you're probably not in need of the 'benefits' it gives you. Just call them and ask them to downgrade the account to a free one. You won't have to change your account number or anything so dd's will remain in place (they may send you a new debit card though but pin will probably stay the same).

    I wouldn't worry about it, TSB's been closed for 13 years. ;)

Seriously though, it's probably a premium account that you've obviously got no recollection of signing for.

I'd ask Lloyds to establish when the fee started, and ask them to provide evidence of you signing for it.

If they can't, ask for a refund. I doubt you'll get YEARS worth, but maybe a little. Their challenge to this will likely be "you've been paying it for X years, why are you only bothering to question it now?"

  • This will be a Select account, charging £7.95 per month and giving you:

First £50 of your overdraft free.
    Roadside assistance AA breakdown cover
    Mobile phone insurance
    Sentinal Card Protection

If you don't need any of these, go into your branch and ask to be taken down to a classic account which is free. Or even better a classic plus if you have £1000+ turnover each month as this gives you 4% interest.

The select a/c doesn't exist anymore for new customers. If you use some of the benefits, the swap to a silver account. Same price but they add in European travel insurance for you and your partner.

  • And you would not have been eligible for this account until at least 18.
